HIS EXCELLENCY Keith Garderner, Australian Ambassador to Nepal, launched the Anthology of Australasian Stories on January 22. A part of Spiny Babbler's Multinational Involvement Program, this publication joins Selected Poems of the United Kingdom, Selected Poems of Nepal, Young Minds of Twenty Nations and Modern Poets of Europe in the list of Spiny Babbler's international publications.

The anthology, edited by Brian Dibble, Professor of Comparative Literature, Curtin University, presents contemporary literature of Australasia and addresses topics ranging from different lifestyles in Australian and New Zealand cities to sociocultural or political issues that individuals or communities presently deal with in the region. It speaks through the minds of 48 new generation writers who reflect the essence of what Australasia is today: the people, their beliefs, and the social values and ideals they have cultivated, grown up with, and uphold in their day-to-day lives. Started in June 2001, the project has taken one and a half years to complete and has involved the efforts of many individuals.

Wendy Birman, President of Perth PEN Centre, has played a crucial role in giving shape to this multinational involvement project. She is responsible for establishing communications with editors based in Australia. Kelly Pilgrim, Sue Grey-Smith, and the contributors and university lecturers involved in the Association of Australian Writing Programs made important contribution to the collection of contemporary stories.
