Manjushree, the Buddha of wisdom, who is said to have cut the gorge at Chobhar with his Khadga, magical sword of wisdom, letting the logged water out to form Kathmandu Valley. He holds his left hand poised at his heart in Abhaya mudra, a manner of blessing signifying protection and holding the stalk of a flower with a book in it. The book is said to be Prajanaparmita, the book of divine wisdom. A flaming sword is held aggressively in his right hand and his long, loose shawl curls at his sides as if caught in action. He sits with his legs crossed in a meditating posture on a double lotus podium. His smooth golden face is bracketed in his beautifully decorated diadem.
