The Buddha stands on a lotus pedestal, his left hand holds a bowl and his right palm imparts blessings upon those who look at him. Branches on his robe, his toes, fingers, and the flower he holds on his right hand are shaped with great finesse. He has characteristic ears, lengthened by the heavy earrings he wore as a Shakya prince, slender high eyebrows, and eyes half-closed in meditation. A product of old Bungamati, Kathmandu Valley, 2000. The founder of Buddhism is also worshipped by many Hindu and tribal cultures in Nepal and India. |
