This Buddha head, carved in fine grained wood is of exceptional workmanship. The image appears to have been influenced by Southeast Asian Buddhas, note the thick lips, high eyebrows, and distinct ears (ears of the Buddha are said to have become long due to the heavy earrings he wore as a young Shakya prince). The image is a product of old Bungamati, Kathmandu Valley, 1997-1999. The founder of the Buddhist religion is worshipped by many Hindu and tribal cultures in Nepal and India. |
