This style of lion is like those found from the Malla period onwards (thirteenth to eighteenth century). They are placed as protectors in front of palaces and temples. This lion has distinct features as its mouth is open, its mane is layered and it wears a crown. Its thick body stands alertly focused forward. A product of old Patan, Kathmandu Valley, 1999.
