This image shows the Buddha in the well-known dhyana asana meditative posture. His gracefully carved fingers are in bhusparsa mudra or the earth touching position. The posture and the position of his fingers indicate that Mara, the source of temptation, has failed to distract the Shakyamuni Buddha from his meditation. After his victory over temptation, the earth bears witness as to his success. His left is placed comfortably on his lap. A product of old Bungamati, Kathmandu Valley, 2000. Buddhist image also worshipped by Hindus and Shamans.
