| This well-crafted artwork shows Ravana with ten heads, note that the head on top is that of a horse. His sixteen arms hold as many weapons. Dressed in battle uniform, the sculpture relates to his posture before combat with Rama, whose wife, Sita, he had abducted. He rides on a chariot with two servants, one holding his standard and a mane of horsehair and the other providing him with shade under an umbrella. The statue is a product of old Bungamati, Kathmandu Valley, 2000. The warrior features predominantly in Hindu scriptures and is also famous among Thai and Sri Lankan Buddhist cultures. |
