A simply, even roughly, carved image, the peacock is a recurring theme in Newari wooden carvings in its sitting or standing positions. The peacock, though it was not found in Kathmandu Valley, seems to have enjoyed similar adulation as the tiger and the dragon among the Newars. The figure stresses the highly patterned feathers and the graceful shape of the bird. A product of old Patan, Kathmandu Valley, 2000. |
