English Adaptation of Nepali Poetry

Collection "Sky Sparkles and Burnt Flesh" containing poems of Iswar Ballav and "Sun and Sky from Prison" contain ten poems each and have been adapted into the English language by Pallav Ranjan. Bairagi Kaila and Greta Rana spoke on the current situation of Nepalese poetry and the need to present its finest creations to an international audience.

 

Poets Iswar Ballab and Bhuwan Dhungana also spoke about their experiences and the poems were read out in Nepali and English. Musicians Biru Shrestha and Hari Ale of the Sur Sudha Music Academy performed classical and folk tunes during the occasion. Among the audience were Manjul, Charlie Law, researcher Philip Pierce, Chirag Bangdel, Prakash Sayami, students, and international visitors to Nepal.

 

Para Limbu, chairperson of Spiny Babbler commented that this was the fifth of the monthly Spiny Babbler readings. "The next reading will cover Siddhicharan Shrestha and also present 20 minutes live music performance by talented musicians," she said.
