Bairagi Kaila in English

Poet Iswar Ballab inaugurated Pallav Ranjan's English adaptation of Bairagi Kaila's poems in English, The Color of Weddings, at the Spiny Babbler premises recently. Poets Usha Sherchan, Toya Gurung, and Manjul were among those present at the inauguration and poetry reading by Bairagi Kaila and Pallav Ranjan, states Spiny Babbler release issued here today

 

“Bairagi Kaila is a poet and an eminent scholar of the Limbu language and culture. His collection, Bairagi Kailaka Kavitaharu, first published in 1974, is among the most appreciated of collections of poetry of present-day Nepal," Para Limbu, chairperson of Spiny Babbler, said while introducing the poet, according to the release.

 

Bairagi Kaila – born Til Bikram Nembang in Panchthar District, eastern Nepal, in 1940 and educated in Darjeeling – made Nepali literature history by publishing Teshro Ayam in 1963 with Iswar Ballab and Indra Bahadur Rai.

 

Ranjan, who has already presented The Pilgrim (Devkota poems in translation), Among Strangers, Love Poem, and Swasthani in English, is adapting 1000 Nepalese poems into the English language, the release adds.
