[Spiny Babbler, in association with five-star Hotel Yak & Yeti installed an woodcarver at the hotel's lobby for the fall season of 2001. The woodcarver prepared tudal struts for Spiny Babbler and explained his work to the visitors at the hotel.]

From the month of August 2001, Hotel Yak & Yeti is visited by a local craftsman from the ancient city of Lalitpur who is creating woodcarving masterpieces. Lalitpur is famous for its fine and detailed work in wood.

Ratna Bhai Shilpakar is carving a traditional temple pillar, known as 'tundal' and is giving a demonstration of his skill to the art-loving guests at the hotel. His father, who was also in the same profession, trained him in this centuries old tradition handed over from one generation to another.

Fine woodcarvings are used extensively at the hotel: the Gazebo, Chimney Restaurant, The Durbar, and in the lobby and Newari wing rooms. The Gazebo is a prefect setting for Shilpakar artist to work in. The appreciation and queries form the watchful guests makes him more enthusiastic, says the Shilpakar.
