A
combined preliminary exhibition of Nanda Budhathoki's "The
Buddha" and Param Meyangbo's "Dark Flowers" is ongoing
at Spiny Babbler art gallery from December 1 to 15. Along with these
exhibits, the gallery in Kupondol offers a special display and sale
of photographs for the New Year and Christmas by P. Limbu, S. Maharjan
and P. Ranjan.
Of
the two artists displaying artwork, Nanda Budhathoki has been awarded
for excellence in art in different competitions. He is working on
a painting series of Buddha images of the Kathmandu Valley. Among
the painted images on this preliminary display are a Dipankar from
Bhaktapur, a Tibetan Buddha image of Swayambhu, and a stone image
of the Buddha from the Ashoka Stupa in Patan. All images are of
historical and cultural significance and his full exhibit will also
be featured by Spiny Babbler in 1999.
On
the other hand, Param Meyangbo has published her art works on cover
jackets. Her artwork was featured as two 1.5 x 3 meter displays
by PEN International during the Beijing Conference. Her first solo
exhibition was "Enamel Works". The 14 images on display
are a part of her 34-art work series "Dark Flowers" which
is to be featured in publication form by Spiny Babbler.
Other
upcoming works at Spiny Babbler are those of Maharjan in the form
of color photographs (Newari culture). Ranjan in the form of Swasthani
religious scripture in translation and related paintings (readings
that go back at least 300 years), Silpakar in the form of wooden
carved frames (a carving tradition that goes back six generations),
and H.K. Neupane of Jumla who is preparing stone and wooden images
of the ancient Khas kingdom of Far West Nepal (the first history
of which has been established as far back as 500 A.D.)
