Spiny Babbler's New Edition Sees the Light of Day

The Rising Nepal, 28 June 1996

The new edition of Spiny Babbler entitled Among Strangers is a special edition of St. Xavier’s Godavari. The nine poems in the edition are by Pallav Ranjan, an ex-Godavarian. Mr. Ranjan has already made his mark on Nepal's English literature scene with The Pilgrim which contained 13 of Laxmi Prasad Devkota's poems translated into English, says a press release issued by Spiny Babbler Pvt. Ltd.

The collection is oriented towards the general audience as well as individuals who recall what the school life at St. Xavier’s Godavari was like. Located on the laps of Phulchowki hills, the school is ideal with much natural and cultural splendor around it, and, appropriately, Among Strangers recalls laughter, tears, insecurities, incidents and other details that make school life so special for everyone, the press release says.

Among Strangers also plays a tribute to the educators who gave their lives to quality education, human values and created a teaching system that was admired all over the world. It calls to mind persons like Fr. Moran who began the school in the early 1950s when the buildings that today are classrooms were dilapidated elephant stables, and Fr. Downing who always opposed needless change saying “Change is not always for the better". The collection will be priced at Rs. 30 and will be available at the bookstores soon, the press release says.
