Pokhara Section Installed

Pokhara. Spiny Babbler Society has been working with literature and art for the past ten years and has installed the Pokhara Section in its online museum. Kaski's Chief District Officer and writer Narendra Raj Poudel officially launched the section on Monday in Pokhara by turning on the website by pressing a keyboard.

Established in 1991, Spiny Babbler Society has been presenting Nepalese literature and art in English and promoting it internationally. It began by publishing a 40-page journal and installed an art gallery in 1996 and the Spiny Babbler Museum in 2000. It presents the lives and works of Nepalese writers and artists and other issues related to the arts in its online museum.

Books, five galleries, and five thousand webpages have already been compiled and placed on the website comments the society's director Pallav Ranjan. Giving information about the society, Ranjan said that the society has been bringing out regular publications and organizing workshops and exhibitions.

Writer Tirtha Shrestha, discussing Nepalese literature, said that Nepali literature is equal in quality to that of neighboring countries but it has not been able to gain international recognition. Writer Tejnath Ghimmire said that translating the inner depth of Nepalese literature was a challenge.

Writers Narendra Raj Poudel, Tirtha Shrestha, Tejnath Ghimmire, Biswa Shakya, Surya Khadka Bikharchi, Prakat Pageni Shiva, singer Haridevi Koirala, Sarita Poudel, Ramesh Shrestha, Pushpa Acharya, Saraswati Lalachan, Pratikcha, Depak Sameep, Druba Shrestha, Suresh Ranabhat, Sarita Tiwari as well as other poets read their poems, songs, and other creations during the ceremony. Director Ranjan commented that the works were being be collected and would be placed on the website.
