Babbler invites creators, editors, scholars and
administrators to share their work with Spiny Babbler's
Nepalese and international contacts through various
interactive programs like talks, discussions, readings,
exhibitions, and workshops. During these events,
participants learn about the varied experiences
of these professionals and also expand their knowledge
regarding the arts.
In
2002, "Mountains Forever" a short story
program involving children from 20 nations was
completed. British poetry publications Acumen
and Hearing Eye participated in presentations,
readings, and workshops held by Spiny Babbler
in Nepal. A talk on German arts, literature, and
film-making and a slide presentation by Arlene
Blum, author of Annapurna: A Woman's Place were
organized for volunteers in 2001. Spiny Babbler
also participated in the United Nations's "Dialogue
Among Civilizations" poetry program the same
year.
The
organization especially concentrates on continent
specific activities such as in Asia, Australia,
Africa, Europe, North America, and South America.
These activities help to document and portray
the arts wealth of specific areas. Activities
like Selected Short Stories of Australia and Neighboring
Islands, Selected Poems of Australia, and Selected
Poems of Europe particularly deal with editorials,
short stories, essays, and poems. Selected Poems
of the United Kingdom was completed in 2000. Established
professionals in the editing, writing, and publishing
fields participate in these activities as coordinators
and editors.
The
objectives of the international program have been
identified as:
| - |
To
encourage people to appreciate diverse arts
through the exchange and documentation of
the arts representing specific areas. |
| - |
To
help develop in people a better insight and
perspective towards the sociocultural significance
of the arts. |
| - |
To
consolidate the learning efforts of those
interested in working with the arts. |
| - |
To
make arts related information of specific
areas easily accessible to a global and Nepalese
audience through the use of the world wide
web. |
Spiny
Babbler aims to establish an international network.
It has a database of poets, editors, and writers
from the United States and plans to build up this
database to cover other specific areas. The organization
will also be establishing communications with
institutions, foundations, and museums working
with the arts.
Activities
falling within the international program are designed
to create goodwill and solidarity between countries
and through the understanding and respect for
each other's history and politics. After the royal
massacre in June 2001, Acumen published "A
Tribute to Nepal" in its 41st edition.
The
international program especially believes that
nations worldwide will be able to come together
and experience the need to value each others'
cultural heritage through the development of global
perspectives.
