| | "Selected
Poems of the United Kingdom" among Spiny Babbler's multinational involvement
projects. The project is helping us to document the works of established and leading
creators of the United Kingdom. It aims to create publications and a website that
presents contemporary English poetry before Spiny Babbler's audience. Over the
long haul, the project aims to list prominent contemporary English poets and make
available samples of their work. The project also aims to shortlist influential
institutions, publications, and sites that work with poetry in the United Kingdom.
The
project started in March 2000. Patricia Oxley, editor of "Acumen", was
invited to lead the project. During the initial project phase, Ms. Oxley selected
and edited the works of 38 poets of the United Kingdom. Spiny Babbler published
their works in "Selected Poems of the United Kingdom". In
the next phase, a visit by Patricia and William Oxley to Nepal focused on personal
interactions with poets, artists, and editors and the exchange of information
on contemporary English poets. The visit also supported young Nepalese people
writing poetry in English through a workshop, readings, and interactions. The
efforts resulted in "Creating Verse" launched by the director of the
British Council Brigid O' Conner in Kathmandu. At
present, information sharing is ongoing through the print and web media. |
